Woman Jailed For Burglary - Used Money To Buy Heroin

On August 20th at approximately 4pm, Hazleton Police responded to the 100 block of West Magnolia Street for a report of a burglary.
Through an investigation, police determined that an unknown actor entered the residence and removed several hundred dollars worth of property.

Further investigation led to surveillance video produced by members of the community, identifying Shirley Hill, 48 of Hazleton, as the actor.

Hill was located in the 100 block of North Laurel Street on Monday August 22nd at approximately 8pm when she was taken into custoy by officer Jessica Hutnik without incident.

Shirley Hill admitted to being in the area on the day of the burglary and selling the stolen items for heroin.  She was subsequently charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Theft, and Receiving Stolen Property and transported to Luzerne County Correctional Facility without further incident.

Chief Jerry Speziale has released these statements on the arrest:
