Hazleton City Police state that at approximately 1:10am this morning, Hazleton Police Officers responded to a call for and unattended child in the area of the 800 block of N. Church Street.

A good samaritan called and reported that a small child was outside in the cold with no jacket running back and forth across Church Street. Hazleton Officers B. Dubin and E. Hernandez responded and made contact with a 19 year old male who secured the child from running in the roadway and wrapped the 3 year old child in blankets to warm him because he was exposed to the cold.

According to police, the child was wearing pajamas and a pair of slip on shoes. The child was unable to provide anyone his name, where he lives or anything else to the effect of where he lived. Hazleton Police took protective custody of the Child. Hazleton Officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate any open doors or residences in the area with signs of life. EMS was requested to the location for an evaluation of the child who was then transported to LVHH for evaluation.

Hazleton Police notified Children and Youth who responded to LVHH and took custody of the child.

At approximately 6:25am, Hazleton Police were dispatched to the area of W. 3rd Street on a missing 3 year old child. Parents were advised to respond to City Hall to be interviewed. Upon arrival mother and father wanted to report their son missing. Det. B. Green was notified and responded to interview the parents.

Police say that as a result of the interview, it was determined that there was no neglect on the part of the parents and the parents and child were ultimately re-united.
