Trash Collection Issues In Freeland

8/4/2018

At Freeland Borough's last Council meeting, residents were urged to contact the Borough Secretary with any garbage collection issues.

For months residents have been complaining on social media about bulk collection items or County Waste cans not being picked up.
During their July 26th meeting, Freeland Borough Council urged residents to contact the Borough Secretary rather than contacting the collection company, County Waste, directly.

During the most recent meeting, a resident stated that her garbage was not picked up for the past three weeks, adding that she even ran after the garbage truck to try to stop them.

Borough Council President Barb Tulanowski stated "We're having problems with garbage all over town, and even with the bulk items and having them come back."
Borough Solicitor Donald Karpowich stated that under the contract, every missed pickup is a violation with fines set for every violation.

"If anyone has a problem with the garbage hauler, please call the Borough building so one we are aware of it, and two we can correct it." Solicitor Karpowich said.

A resident stated that they had already called once, to which Solicitor Karpowich clarified "Not just once. Every time it happens.", adding that every time it happens it is a separate violation and a separate fine.

The Borough Secretary can be reached at 570-636-0111.
