The arrests came after an investigation into Child Abuse, which led to two felony arrests and one misdemeanor arrest.

Starting on June 6th, 2018, Hazleton City Police, Luzerne County District Attorney's Office, Luzerne County Detectives Division and the Luzerne County Children and Youth began an investigation into child abuse claims involving the three.

The children were interviewed at the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center. The investigation revealed that the children were subjected to various forms of abuse during the period of time in which they resided with the Parise Family.

According to Police, the children disclosed that Amy, Shawn, and Brenda Parise would beat the children with their hands, belts, and a paddle. Amy and Brenda Parise would frequently deprive the children of food. When they did allow them to eat, the children had to sit on the floor with their feet crossed and one hand behind their backs. The lack of care and unsanitary living conditions in the home resulted in the children being malnourished, all three children developing scabies, and one child victim failing to thrive.

Amy, Brenda, and Shawn Parise turned themselves in to Magistrate Dixon's Office on Monday, January 7th, 2019 where they were arraigned. Amy and Brenda were remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $30,000 straight bail. Shawn PARISE was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on $10,000 straight bail.
