Hazleton City Police say that around 1:45 PM today, a Hispanic male, 6 foot tall wearing a police type metal badge, black jacket, and a gray hat went into a home in the 500 block of Muir Avenue.
The individual portrayed himself as a water company employee looking to test the water in the residence. Once let inside the home, the individual stole jewelry and fled the area.
The Hazleton police department is asking all residents to not allow anyone into their homes.
If there is a clearly marked company vehicle outside your home, contact the company to verify they should be at your address.
Otherwise, If anyone comes to your home for any reason and asks to enter and check your water, sewer, chimney or any other item, please contact 911 immediately and do not let them in your home.
Hazleton Police Department will verify if they are in fact the proper authority.
