Around 4pm today, a post on Facebook began making waves after a local mother stated that she had heard that a school shooting was planned for the Freeland Elementary/Middle School tomorrow April 12th 2018.
The post stated "I heard from someone today that 2 girls are planning on a shooting tomorrow at the freeland school."
The post had over 200 shares on social media at the time of writing this article.
The Freeland Police were notified of the threats and immediately began investigating.
Jackie Rodrigues, the creator of the social media post, had heard the information from another mother who heard the information from their child.
Police quickly began working to find the source of the threats through the grapevine of information.
Police dispersed the information directly to the Freeland Crime Watch and notified the school of the threats and investigation.
The investigation was still ongoing as of 10pm, with Police acknowledging that they had a list of at least four individuals to be questioned in relation to the threats.
The Hazleton Area School District sent out a Remind text message at around 7:50pm stating:
"HASD is aware of rumors surrounding a possible school shooting at FEMS. An investigation showed that there is no threat."
Prior to heading to an address in another Borough as part of the investigation, Freeland Police were asked about the HASD notification.
Freeland Police Chief Kevin Schuetrumpf had made it clear that although HASD had stated there was no threat after an investigation, the Police were still conducting their investigation with more individuals left to interview.
