Police Arrest One After Report Of Gunshots

On August 22nd, at approximately 7PM, Hazleton City Police responded to area of Colombus Ct. and Arthur St. for a report of gunshots coming from the wooded area behind Columbus Ct.

​Upon arrival at the scene the Hazleton Police Patrol Officers began checking the area for the actor(s) involved. While checking the wooded area the officers encounted two males walking out of the woods. Both actors were ordered to stop and get on the ground, at which time both actors fled on foot into the woods and a foot pursuit ensued.
One of the actors later identified as Adam Matarese, was located hiding in weeds attempting to elude the officers. Matarese was found to be in possession of a stolen .40 cal. Springfield Armory handgun. Matarese was taken into custody and also to be found to be in possession of (8) small baggies of suspected crack cocaine.
Adam Matarese, Hazleton, 27 Years of age was charged with the following violations:
(1) Convicted Felon Prohibited to Possess a Firearm
(1) Receiving Stolen Property
(1) Possession of a Controlled Substance
(1) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
