Parents: Hazleton Area Teen Hospitalized Due To Vaping - New CDC Release Points To Illegal THC Products

Leon and Marcia Cunningham say their son Jordan is hospitalized in connection with vaping.

In a post on social media showing Jordan in a hospital bed, Leon Cunningham wrote "This is our son Jordan Cunningham. Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and friend to many. This is his current condition.Take a good look all of you that Vape. This is what happens."

Mother Marcia Cunningham took a more firm approach, posting "I will be on the band wagon to ban(sic) vaping immediately." Adding "And anyone who sells vapes and their products and promotes vaping I hope your hands fall off. Your killing our kids."

Jordan was transported to the hospital yesterday evening via ambulance for stomach and back pains according to Leon Cunningham on social media.

Local vaping advocates also took to the social media posts making their way around Facebook. "Prayers sent", Chris Lieb posted on one of the images of Jordan, adding "any lung issues from vaping has been proven by the cdc to be from illegal or black market thc vapes."

Jordan's father Leon says that Jordan only purchased from local stores, suggesting that the local stores must be selling illegal or black market items. Jordan's mother Marcia added "When im done all vape shops will be closed down."

A CDC press release issued last week confirms what Lieb argued. The release states "The latest findings from the investigation into lung injuries associated with e-cigarette use, or vaping, suggest THC products play a role in the outbreak. Most of the people (77%) in this outbreak reported using THC-containing products, or both THC-containing products and nicotine-containing products."

The CDC also states that nearly all THC-containing products reported were packaged, prefilled cartridges that were primarily acquired from informal sources such as friends, family members, illicit dealers, or off the street.

Prof John Newton, director of health improvement at Public Health England (PHE), which maintains that vaping is 95% less harmful than tobacco, has said “It would be tragic if thousands of smokers who could quit with the help of an e-cigarette are being put off due to false fears about safety,”

Analysts have noticed that the phenomenon appears to be mysteriously affecting only the US, with Politico describing the issue as “Europe’s missing ‘vaping sickness’”.

In other countries, Europe and the UK in particular, where vaping is hugely popular and even suggested by the government, have not seen a similar health crisis in relation to vaping.

“You’re terrifying people who are benefiting from vaping by not smoking,” said Clive Bates, a former chief of the UK charity Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).

Cleaning Up Local Waterways & Having Fun Doing It

To prevent litter from ending up in our waterways, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful coordinates PICK UP PENNSYLVANIA, in support of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, from September 1 through October 31. The goal is to encourage volunteers to remove items from PA waterways that could make their way to the oceans and promote cleaner bodies of water in PA.
Local YouTuber Shayne Balliet and his family are doing their part by magnet fishing in local ponds and lakes.
Magnet fishing is the act of throwing a magnet into a body of water in hopes to "catch" metal objects in the water.
With the aid if a grappling hook, Balliet and his family removed a bullet, multiple parts of a lawnmower, a bicycle, a tire, a toaster oven, and more from one small roadside pond.
Balliet says that these items as well as an air conditioner, weight bench, and more that were found in other bodies of water, will be collected shortly from alongside these ponds and disposed of properly.
