One Resident Dead, Two Firefighters Injured In Fire With Mayday Call

Just before 7am this morning, fire broke out in the 800 block of Ridge Street in Freeland.

Radio transmissions stated that up to four people may have been entrapped in the home, with one confirmed to be entrapped in a back bedroom. An elderly male is confirmed to have passed away in the fire

At least two firefighters were injured while fighting the fire. Below is an audio recording of radio transmissions while firefighters announced a Mayday. 

Firefighters use the Mayday call when they are disorientated, lost, injured, out of or low on air, trapped, or whenever they have an emergency and need assistance or rescue.
Donations are being collected for those who lost everything this morning.

​"They need everything." A post on Facebook begins. "Baby boy clothes size 18 months. Girl clothes size 10/12 or 12/14. Women's size 3x shirts 20 pants. Men's XL. Prayers, positive thoughts whatever would be appreciated for them."

Items can be dropped off at 941 Burton St.. Freeland and later today at 552 Front Street.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
