A Hazleton man was hospitalized after his vehicle ripped in half in a South Church Street accident just after 5pm yesterday. State Police identified the man as 25 year old Gilberto Rodruguez Sanchez.
Sanchez was thrown from the vehicle after it struck a utility pole, shearing the pole and splitting the car in half. Police suspect Sanchez was driving at a high rate of speed.
Route 309 between Buttonwood and Arthur Gardner was closed briefly due to downed power wires. The extent of Sanchez's injuries is unknown.
