After a massive public outcry to halt commercial transportation between Hazleton and New York and New Jersey, Hazleton Mayor Jeff Cusat took action today meeting with the owners of the city's two licensed van companies.
With 8,300 total cases in New York and 2,938 new cases in the past 24 hours, residents of the Hazleton area took to social media with their concerns.
In comparison, New Jersey has 890 total cases with 148 new cases in the past 24 hours. Pennsylvania has 303 total cases with 83 new cases.
In a social media post today, Mayor Cusat announced that the companies had agreed to halt operations until April.
"To put Hazleton citizens at ease, I have met with the two licensed van companies that provide daily shuttle service to New York and New Jersey and both have voluntarily agreed to stay closed until April. I want to thank Jose of Cibao Express and Maiker from VIP Express Travel for their willingness to make Hazleton safer."
