Man Jailed In Relation To Early Morning Shooting

Around 2:40am this morning, West Hazleton Police responded to 5 Washington Avenue for a report of a domestic situation. The original report was from a juvenile female in the home who called 911 to report that someone was trying to kick everyone out of the house and was threatening them with a gun.

One male victim was airlifted to a regional trauma center for treatment of gunshot wounds

Domingo Garcia Lopez, 44 of West Hazleton, was charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in relation to the early morning shooting.

Lopez was arraigned by Magistrate James Dixon and remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail.

​Sources state the victim is in a local trauma center currently in critical condition and has undergone surgery.

West Hazleton Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Hazleton City Police Department, Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Patrol Unit and Forensic Services Unit, the West Hazleton Fire Department, and APTS EMS.

West Hazleton Police state the investigation into the incident remains ongoing and further charges are pending.
