Yesterday at approximately 7:40pm, Hazleton Police responded to a fight in progress in the area of the Hazleton Imaging Center leading to an arrest and the discovery of a firearm. The fight was determined to have occurred on West Chapel and South Church Streets.
According to police, the male victim, a 23 year old resident, was at a house located in the 100 block of S. Church Street sitting on a quad that he had just purchased in the woods approximately one hour prior when three unknown males and a female pulled up in two separated vehicles and confronted him stating that the quad was theirs and accused the victim of stealing it.
The actors, 35 year old Dariel Caraballo, 39 year old Maximo Castillo, and the others arrived and a physical altercation allegedly broke out between Caraballo and the victim and it was alleged that Maximo Castillo brandished a firearm in the direction of the victim causing a female family member of the victim to intercede.
In plain view, Hazleton Officers state they observed a muzzle of a firearm in a black in color Subaru bearing PA registration parked on W. Chapel Street and recovered a black and silver color Smith and Wesson 9mm Handgun, which was logged into evidence.
The vehicle and quad were towed by Paul’s Towing and logged accordingly.
Charges were completed on Maximo Castillo for Simple Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Disorderly conducted.
Castillo was transported to LCCF for overnight arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing.
