On April 20th around 10:30pm, The Mahanoy City Police charged Ryan Shoup, age 21, with two counts of Aggravated Assault, two counts of Simple Assault, Possessing Instruments of a Crime, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, False Reports to Law Enforcement, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Charges were filed by Ptlm. Thomas Rentschler.

Police say Shoup is accused of stabbing a male in the area of W. Market and B Streets.
Police allege Shoup jumped out of a van that was travelling on the street, and then began assaulting the victim who was walking in the area.
The victim was treated for a single abdominal stab wound at the Lehigh Valley Schuylkill South Hospital in Pottsville. Shoup was arrested at a residence in the 400 block of West Pine Street without incident.

The knife used to stab the victim was also recovered at that residence. He was then arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Plachko and was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $50,000.00 straight bail.

Via Chief Kenneth Zipovsky:
It is important to make the public aware that the victim and the offender were known to each other. This was not a random act. The swift apprehension of the defendant is a testament of the Mahanoy City Police Department’s dedication to providing justice for victims, and making a safer community.
