Local Employers Preparing For Travel Restrictions

3/23/2020

Over the past week, local employers have been preparing for a potential travel ban.

Travel bans have been in place in Italy since March 12th, allowing people to go out only for bare essentials including urgent work-related reasons, situations of need like buying food or necessities, urgent doctor's appointments or health reasons, and returning home. Police in Italy can stop anyone at train stations, on roads, or simply pedestrians on the street to ask them to justify why they are outside.

Everyone in Italy is now required to fill out a standardized form stating their reason for being outside and submit it to authorities if asked.
Stay-At-Home orders have been announced in multiple states with President Trump activating the National Guard in three states yesterday, New York, California and Washington, three of the states hit hardest by the novel coronavirus.

While Pennsylvania is not at this stage yet, many local employers are preparing for a situation where employees will require identification to travel to and from work.

Below are some of the documents given to employees:

The letters and cards state that the holder of that document is an essential employee and that this employee should be allowed to travel to and from work.
