First responders in Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre are helping children coping with chronic illnesses through the 4th annual Badges & Boots campaign. Badges & Boots raises money for the Beads of Courage program.
Via Palermo Foundation's website: "We're recruiting first responders to Carry Beads of Courage! Wear your bead for a day, and then the Beads of Courage program in Pennsylvania will donate it to a child coping with serious illness. When you carry Beads of Courage you remind a child in a fight for life that they are not alone."
First responders pay $20 for a Carry A Bead kit which includes a story card, a pair of identical beads (one for the first responder and one for the child), and a Beads of Courage sticker.
After wearing it for a day, the child's bead is sent to a child in treatment, providing encouragement to the recipients. The identical bead is then kept by the first responder as a reminder. To sign up, visit https://www.palermo-foundation.org/carry-a-bead/ |
