Around 5:30pm Sunday Nanticoke City Fire along with Hanover ladder, and Kingston RIT were dispatched to the area of Prospect and Broad Street for a report of a loud explosion in the area.
Shortly after, crews were updated with the information that the windows of the Northeast Counseling building had been blown out.

Nanticoke City Fire personnel arrived on the scene quickly, confirming that a window of the building had been blown out and that no flames or smoke were visible.

Nanticoke City Fire requested a full commercial box for a full response from Nanticoke City Fire Department to respond to the scene.
Crews searched for a possible gas leak as the suspected cause for the explosion, however no leak was found. The gas meter was shut off as a precaution.
Nanticoke City Police and Nanticoke City Fire Police had the area blocked off while crews investigated.

While Nanticoke City Fire lists the cause as under investigation, sources tell Hazleton News 1 that the cause was a small explosive being thrown at or on top of the building.

Sources state that an m80 or larger was thrown either onto the roof of the building or directly at the window of the building. No verification is available at this time.
