Comedian/Activist speaking for HASD Teachers During Delay

2/6/2019

The Hazleton Area School district has a two hour delay today for a "specialized program for staff". That program includes guest speaker Kevin Breel at a price of $15,000 plus travel expenses.

Breel is a 23 year old writer, comedian, and activist for mental health. Breel's price tag may seem steep, but his career history includes speaking at Harvard, Yale, MIT, TED and various Fortune 500 Companies.

Breel’s “Confessions of a Depressed Comic” on TED Talk has more than four million views, making it one of the most watched TED talks ever on mental health.

The Hazleton Area School Board approved an agreement  between Speakers' Spotlight, an independent contractor for Breel, and the HASD. The contract is an agreement for the speaking date of February 7, 2019. The approved cost includes $15,000 plus travel expenses and will be paid with Title IV Federal Funds, meaning tax payers did not (directly) pay for Breel's appearance.
