WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Lou Barletta (PA-11) announced the opening of the application period to apply for funding through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2017.  The application period will remain open until 5:00 PM (Eastern) on Friday, April 27, 2018.
“Our fire departments and emergency responders are the first line of defense when disaster strikes in our communities,” Barletta said.  “I am proud to support funding for our local fire departments, and will continue to ensure they have the personnel, equipment, and training needed to do their jobs as safely as possible.”
The SAFER Grant Program distributes funds to assist fire departments and volunteer interest organizations with increasing or maintaining the number of trained front line firefighters and emergency services personnel available in their communities.  The program seeks to assist local fire departments with deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, ensuring communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.  The grants are available to volunteer, professional, or combination fire departments.
